Information for Reviewers
Peer review is one of the most important ways an experienced clinician or scientist can influence the quality of the medical literature before it becomes part of the permanent scientific record.
At Rambam Maimonides Medical Journal (RMMJ), your review is not treated as a routine administrative step. Each manuscript is personally assessed by the Editor-in-Chief, with Editorial Board input where needed. Reviewers’ comments are carefully considered in reaching editorial decisions and in helping authors strengthen manuscripts that proceed toward publication.
Why Review for RMMJ?
By reviewing for RMMJ, you contribute your expertise to an international, fully Open Access medical journal whose content is freely available to readers worldwide.
Across the three complete annual periods from July 2023 through June 2026, RMMJ recorded 56,815 full-content accesses, including 26,956 article-PDF downloads. Extended PDF tracking through August 2026 recorded 27,904 downloads of 533 RMMJ article PDFs across 167 countries and territories, with more than 90% of tracked article-PDF downloads originating outside Israel.
RMMJ’s international reach is longstanding, with historical website use recorded from more than 200 countries and territories.
The Journal’s scientific standing also continues to strengthen. RMMJ has a 2025 Impact Factor of 2.0, is ranked Q2 in Medicine, General & Internal, and has a 2025 CiteScore of 2.8.
Your review therefore has an impact beyond a single editorial decision. It helps determine which work enters the published medical literature, improves the quality and clarity of research that may be accessed around the world, and supports a publishing model in which scientific knowledge remains freely available to everyone.
What We Ask of Our Reviewers
We ask reviewers to provide an independent and constructive assessment of the manuscript, with particular attention to:
scientific merit and methodological quality;
originality and importance;
relevance and potential interest to readers;
clarity and overall quality of presentation; and
specific changes that could strengthen the manuscript.
Space is provided both for confidential comments to the Editor and for comments intended for the authors.
RMMJ uses a single-anonymized peer-review process: reviewers know the identity of the authors, but reviewer identities are not disclosed to the authors.
We recognize that a thoughtful review requires time and expertise, and we greatly value the contribution our reviewers make to the Journal and to the wider medical and scientific community.
