Troubleshooting

This page provides additional information to help you with commonly experienced problems when creating an account or submitting a manuscript. We hope this information is helpful.

I keep getting an error for my ORCID number, but I know it is correct.

Based on our experience with others, the problem is not the number but some difference in how you entered your name in our system vs your name in the ORCID system.

Please make sure that your first, middle, and last name is EXACTLY the same in both systems (including spaces, punctuation, and special characters). Our system verifies the number on our system with the number in theirs by number and name.

The number should be entered as it is in ORCID, without the link (https://orcid.org).

Step-by-step instructions for making sure your name is entered correctly:

  1. Go to https://orcid.orgDo NOT login.
  2. Enter your name in the search field, top right of the screen.
Searching for your name in ORCID
  3. A screen appears listing all names that might match yours. See example below. In this case, the person's name is "Peter Tom Jones", however, they usually go by the name "Tom". Note that the person has entered their FIRST Name as "Peter Tom" (this is because ORCID only allows for entry of a first name and a last name.)

  4. To register your account with Rambam Maimonides Medical Journal, your "First Name" must match the ORCID ID. You will enter "Peter Tom" in the First Name field, and "Jones" in the Last Name field.

How to Correctly Register an ORCID Number

Looking at the picture below, these instructions will guide you in correctly entering your details to register or edit your ORCID ID.

These instructions relate ONLY to the first of 5 screens you have to complete for obtaining an ORCID ID.

  1. Given Name: Enter your given name. Given name is your "first" name. It will also include your middle name or middle initial.
DO NOT enter your title such as "Dr", "Mr", or "Professor".
DO NOT enter your family name, surname, or initial name here.

  2. Family Name (optional): Enter your family name (last name, or full initial name) here. Do not leave this field blank, even though ORCID allows it. Doing so will lead to problems in registering your data with Rambam Maimonides Medical Journal.
We strongly recommend giving your full "initial" name to assure correct identification in the case of people with identical first names.

  3. and 4. Your email addresses: For items 3 and 4, enter a primary email and a secondary email. It is always a good idea to provide both your personal and institutional email, to ensure smooth communication.

      5. Click on Next Step and carefully complete the on-screen instructions.

Why aren't my keywords detected?

Please make sure you used a coma (,) to separate keywords from each other. Any other punctuation will be considered to be part of the keyword.

I cannot access the submitted paper | I did not receive confirmation of submission

This problem usually occurs when the SUBMITTING author is not the CORRESPONDING author.

If, before submitting the manuscript, you changed the Corresponding Author to someone else, the manuscript submission system automatically switches the account to their name, and assigns that person their own username and password. As a result, the confirmation email will be sent to the Corresponding Author and NOT the Submitting Author.

After submission, all communications will be directed to the corresponding author. You should contact them for more information about the manuscript's status.
